Zoom’s video conferencing service saw an extraordinary rise to popularity in 2020, thanks in large part to the pandemic and work from home situation. Now, Zoom is reportedly building a new email and calendar service, with the aim to compete against Google and Microsoft.
Both Google and Microsoft offer complete office software solutions, called Workspace and Office 365 respectively. They each have their own video conferencing service, email and calendar apps, and more importantly, they are very integrated among themselves. This is a huge advantage for consumers and businesses as it can save time and energy.
Zoom currently only offers a video conferencing service and not much else. This puts them at a disadvantage when they are trying to compete with Google and Microsoft in the corporate and business space. As a result, Zoom is reportedly developing their own email service that they plan to start testing sometime early next year.
Zoom is also looking into building a calendar app, although whether its development has started or not is unclear. As the pandemic has begun to get under control and the vaccine on the horizon, Zoom might just wait a bit to see how their services get affected when people start going back to work in office, and decide accordingly.
