LG will soon become the first TV manufacturer outside of Google TV to natively support Google’s Stadia game streaming service on its webOS TV platform. The service will become available to webOS TV users as an app later in the year, with support for 4K resolution and 5.1 channel surround sound.
According to Google, support for Stadia will soon be arriving to its Google TV platform, which runs on the new Chromecast and on Sony’s upcoming Bravia XR TVs. After this, LG will be the first TV manufacturer to natively support Stadia streaming on their TV platform, which runs webOS.
Once launched, Stadia will be offered as an app on the LG Content Store, and once installed, Stadia customers will have access to more than 130 games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, NBA 2K21, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion, with support for streaming at up to 4K HDR and 60fps.
The Stadia will first be available on LG TVs running on webOS 6.0, and will later come to LG webOS 5.0 TVs.
Commenting on the announcement, Lee Sang-woo, senior vice president of corporate business strategy at LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company said:
Supporting Stadia on LG TVs is our commitment to customers that gaming is an increasingly important feature expected by LG TV owners. Stadia is changing how people access their favorite games and by providing webOS compatibility, we’re making an early commitment to the platform.
