Qualcomm has just announced its latest Snapdragon 870 5G Mobile Platform as an incremental upgrade to the Snapdragon 865 Plus Mobile Platform that was introduced back in July, which was actually an incremental upgrade to Snapdragon 865. This comes after it introduced Snapdragon 888 5nm SoC. This packs Qualcomm Kryo 585 CPU Prime core clock speed at up to 3.2 GHz, which the company says will offer increased performance.
It doesn’t mention any changes in the GPU, but the company says that it will offer geared-up gameplay with insanely fast Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences, truly global 5Gsub-6 GHz and mmWave with external Snapdragon X55 modem, and ultra-intuitive AI. This is the first time Qualcomm is introducing three iterations of a flagship SoC. It could have called this Snapdragon 865 Pro instead of Snapdragon 870.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 will power a range of flagship devices from Motorola, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO, and Xiaomi. Commercial devices based on Snapdragon 870 are expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2021.
