Apple will soon warn people quicker if an unidentified AirTag is tracking them

When Apple introduced the AirTags in April, they built a number of privacy features that were aimed at preventing unwanted tracking. Apple is now reportedly working on tightening the protections with various updates such as the time to inform a person when they are being tracked without permission, and an Android app to let users know when a AirTag is travelling with them.

Previously, when an AirTag is stationary around a user for more than 3 days, it will make a beeping noise to alert them. With the new update that began rolling out on Thursday, the AirTags will now play a sound at a random time between 8 and 24 hours. This should help users identify more quickly if they are being tracked unknowingly.

Another feature is the ability of an AirTag to inform Apple users, who is on the Find My network, if an unknown AirTag is travelling with them, it will notify them. However, for Android users there isn’t any obvious way to let them know. To mitigate this, Apple is reportedly working on a new Android app that will enable this functionality, and it will be released later in the year.
