Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G Mobile Platform announced; will power upcoming HONOR Magic3 series, ASUS ROG and more flagships


After rumours, Qualcomm has  announced the Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G Mobile Platform, an upgrade to the Snapdragon 888 that was introduced back in December last year. Compared to Snapdragon 888, the Plus version offers an increased Qualcomm Kryo 680 CPU Prime core clock speed at up to 2.995GHz, up 5.2% compared to the predecessor and the 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with up to 32 TOPS AI performance compared to 26 TOPS AI performance in the predecessor, which is a 20% improvement.

It retains 3 x Performance CPUs at up to 2.42GHz and 4x Efficiency CPUs at up to 1.8GHz as the Snapdragon 888. The jump for the Snapdragon 865 to 865+ it was 2.84GHz to 3.1GHz, and for the Snapdragon 870 it jumped to 3.2 GHz. The Snapdragon 888 Plus is a minor jump from 2.84GHz to 3.00GHz. The Adreno 660 GPU is clocked at 840MHz, same as the Snapdragon 888.

Qualcomm confirmed that commercial devices based on Snapdragon 888 Plus are expected in the third quarter of 2021, which starts from July. HONOR has confirmed that the new Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G Mobile Platform will power HONOR’s upcoming Magic3 series flagship. The chip will also power the next ASUS ROG phone, and phones from vivo, Motorola and Xiaomi launching later this year.
