webOS TV update will soon add Amazon Alexa integration

LG webOS TV software, which runs on many third-party TVs, is now receiving an update which enables Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant integration. The update will allow users to use their Magic Remote for voice recognition and access all the various capabilities of Alexa.

Triggering Alexa on webOS TVs will be as simple as long pressing the Amazon Prime Video button and speaking into the Magic Remote. Users will be able to adjust the TV volume, change channels, play music, read news, control a smart home, open apps, and get help with content recommendations.

The update will roll out to a wide range of third-party TVs from brands such as Advance, Blaupunkt, Eko, JSW, Manta, Polaroid, RCA, Seiki and Skytech, along with TVs from original design manufacturers such as Ayonz, Dualshine, Konka, Silicon Player, Skyworth and Xianyou. It will arrive as an OTA update during Q3, 2021, and will come first to North America and later to other regions.

Commenting on the integration, Jung Sung-hyun, head of content services at LG Home Entertainment Company said:

The addition of Amazon Alexa to the long list of webOS features will enhance the user experience and boost the value of our growing smart TV ecosystem. Bringing together the capabilities of Alexa with the convenience of webOS to third-party TVs is a win-win-win for TV brands, customers and developers.
