HUAWEI has announced its flagship P50 and P50 Pro smartphones in an online event, as it had promised. The P50 has a flat 6.5-inch FHD+ OLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate and the Pro model has a 6.6-inch FHD+ OLED curved screen with 120Hz refresh rate. Both these have 1.07 billion color display with support 1,440Hz PWM dimming, a punch-hole screen with a 13MP front camera, and the Pro model has a 100-degree field of view and autofocus.
These are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G version, while the Pro model also comes with Kirin 9000 4G SoC in China. There are no details if the company when the company will launch a 5G model. Both have IP68 ratings for water resistance.
Coming to the camera part, the P50 has triple rear cameras that include a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and the Pro models retains the main and ultra-wide cameras and also adds a 40MP black and white camera and replaces the 12MP periscope telephoto with a 64MP periscope telephoto camera with up to 200x zoom. There is also a laser autofocus module and a ten-channel multi-spectral sensor.
The P50 series feature a new XD Fusion Pro filter system, which can improve the light input and dynamic range performance of the device. The XD Optics computational optics solution is a “global” image information restoration system, which can “correct optical errors in the optical imaging stage”, combined with XD Fusion Pro’s ability to add “conventional” computational photography processing methods than traditional ISPs. There is also DCI-P3 shooting.
These pack 4100mAh and 4360mAh batteries respectively, with support for 66W fast charging. The P50 Pro also comes with 50W wireless charging. HUAWEI says that P50 doesn’t come with cable and charger in the box.

The HUAWEI P50 comes in Golden Black, Cocoa Gold and Pearl White colours, is priced at 4488 yuan (US$ 695 / Rs. 51,605 approx.) for the 8GB RAM with 128GB storage version and the 8GB RAM with 256GB storage version costs 4988 yuan (US$ 772 / Rs. 57,355 approx.). It will go on sale in September.
The HUAWEI P50 Pro comes in Golden Black, Cocoa Gold, Pearl White and Charm Pink colours, is priced at 5988 yuan (US$ 927 / Rs. 68,865 approx.) for 8GB RAM with 128GB storage SD888 version. The 8GB RAM with 256GB storage and 8GB RAM with 512GB storage Kirin 9000 versions are priced at 6488 yuan (US$ 1,004 / Rs. 74,615 approx.) and 7488 yuan (US$ 1159 / Rs. 86,100 approx.), respectively. The Kirin versions are available to order and will go on sale in China from August 12th. The SD888 4G version will not go on sale until December this year.
The top-end 12GB RAM with 512GB SD888 Collector’s Edition with Kirin 9000 in Golden Black costs 8488 yuan (US$ 1314 / Rs. 97,600 approx.) and the Dynamic Sky Blue variant, a new dynamic colourway with motion back panel costs 7988 yuan (US$ 1,235 / Rs. 91,850 approx.). These will go on sale in September. Both the phones will roll out globally, but the launch dates have not been announced yet.
