Redmi today launched the Redmi 10 Prime, the company’s latest budget smartphone in the Prime series, as the successor to last year’s Redmi 9 Prime. This has a large 6.5-inch FHD+ 90Hz refresh rate adaptive display, is the first phone to be powered by MediaTek Helio G88 and packs a huge 6000mAh battery. We got hold of the phone, and here are the first impressions.

The phone has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ 90Hz LCD Adaptive sync variable refresh rate that can switch between 45Hz, 60Hz and 90Hz depending on the content. It has up to 400 nits brightness, so the sunlight legibility is good even in bright outdoors. The screen has corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
The tiny punch-hole houses a 8MP camera. On the top edge there is a earpiece grill that also doubles up as a speaker. It doesn’t have notification LED. Powered by MediaTek Helio G88, the phone has up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB (eMMC 5.1) storage. It runs Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 out of the box. The phone offers a smooth user experience and doesn’t have any lags.
Coming to the button placements and ports, the volume rockers and the power button that integrates the fingerprint sensor are present on the right side of the phone. There are also some gesture features in the power button that lets you double tap to perform actions or take a screenshot. On the left side there is a dual SIM slot and microSD slot arranged in a single tray. On the top there is a 3.5mm audio jack, vent for speaker, secondary microphone and an infrared sensor. The loudspeaker grill, primary microphone and USB Type-C port are present on the bottom. The phone has a plastic frame.
The Redmi 10 Prime is one of the first phones in the price rage to feature ta 50MP sensor. There is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, 2-meapixel depth sensor for portrait shots as well as 2-megapixel macro camera. It has AI features and supports up to 1080p 30 fps video recording for both the rear and front cameras. Since the phone lacks EIS, stabilization is not good for videos.

We have the Bifrost Blue colour with a glossy finish and a gradient design, but the phone also comes in Phantom Black and Astral White colours that have a smooth fingerprint-proof finish. The phone supports 18W fast charging with 9W reverse wired charging. Even though the phone has a huge battery, the weight of the phone is 192 grams, which is 6 grams lighter than the predecessor that has a 5020mAh. The phone also has splash proof coating, but it doesn’t have IP ratings for water resistance like the Redmi Note 10 series.
The Redmi 10 Prime starts at Rs. 12,499 for the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage version and will be available from Amazon.in, Mi.com as well as Mi Home store starting from September 7th.
