Qualcomm is all set to introduce Snapdragon 898 (SM8450), the company’s upcoming 5G Mobile Platform as the successor to Snapdragon 888 / 888+ in a few months. The chip has surfaced in benchmark of a vivo test device fomr China with the model number V2102A with 8GB of RAM, running Android 12. According to leaker Digital Chat Station, the SoC will use Samsung’s 4nm process technology, and the prime core will feature the new Cortex-X2 CPU compared to Cortex-X1 in the Snapdragon 888.
It is said to use Adreno 730 GPU compared to the Adreno 660 in the predecessor, but the clock speed is not known yet. However, the test device uses lower clock speeds of 1 x 2.42GHz (Prime) +3 x 2.17GHz (Performance) 3 x 1.79GHz (Efficiency), but for mass production there will be increase the frequency to offer improvements in performance and is also optimize power consumption. Earlier rumours revealed that the Prime core will be clocked at up to 3.09 GHz.
We can expect it to feature Snapdragon X65 4th generation 4nm 5G modem which was introduced earlier this year as the world’s first 10 Gigabit 5G and the first 3GPP release 16 modem-RF system.
The Snapdragon 898 is expected to be introduced sometime in December, same as the Snapdragon 888.
