Amazon launches new Kindle Paperwhite and Paperwhite Signature Edition with 6.8-inch screen, Waterproof body in India

Amazon today launched New Kindle Paperwhite (11th Gen) and Paperwhite Signature Edition e-readers in India. Both these feature a bigger 6.8-inch 300 PPI screen, and the company says that the display is 10% brighter compared to the predecessor. Both these have 17 white and amber LED lights, adjustable warm light and white-on-black mode, but only  the Signature Edition has an auto-adjusting light sensor which was previously present only on the Oasis models. Amazon says that the bezels have been reduced to 10mm.

These have 8GB and 32GB storage, respectively. Both these feature a waterproof body with IPX8 ratings to protect against immersion in up to two metres of fresh water for up to 60 minutes, similar to the previous generation Paperwhite. These come only in Wi-Fi models, and don’t have a 4G version.

The new Kindle Paperwhite line up is claimed to have the longest battery life of all Kindle models – up to 10 weeks on a single full charge. Both these have USB Type-C charging and will take 2.5 hours to charge using a 10W adapter. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition also comes with support for wireless charging, for the first time in a Kindle so that you can charge it with a compatible Qi wireless charger.

Pricing and availability

The new Kindle Paperwhite with 8GB storage comes in Black colour and is priced at Rs. 13,999, and the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with 32GB storage in Black colour costs Rs. 17,999. These are available to pre-order from Amazon.in. As a part of launch offer, those who pre-order will get 80% off on e-books up to Rs. 500 Kindle Credits. The new Kindle Paperwhite will ship from October 27th, while the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition will start shipping from November 4th.
