YouTube Music app with offline download now available for select WearOS 2 smartwatches

The YouTube Music app has now begun rolling out for select WearOS 2 smartwatches. One of the highlight features of the app is support for offline downloads that allows YouTube Music Premium subscribers to download music directly on to their WearOS smartwatch for an ad-free listening experience without being near their smartphone.

Many smartwatches lately have begun shipping with more internal storage inside, such as the Galaxy Watch 4 that comes with 16GB of internal storage. One of the many uses of this storage is to enable offline download of media that can be played without being connected to a smartphone.

Music streaming apps are slowly beginning to support offline download of songs, and the latest to enable support is the new YouTube Music app on WearOS 2. The feature will be able available to YouTube Music Premium subscribers and the app will also support Smart Downloads feature, which will automatically refresh the songs that have been downloaded whenever the watch connects to Wi-Fi.

The new YouTube Music app is first rolling out to the Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches, Mobvoi’s TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, TicWatch Pro 3 Cellular/LTE, and TicWatch E3 smartwatches. It will roll out to more devices that run the latest version of Wear OS 2 later in the year.
