After last weeks global outage to Facebook’s services, Instagram has released a new update to their app that will inform users when outages happen in the future. In addition, Instagram has introduced a new Account Status tool that will function as a one-stop place for account information.
The idea behind outage notifications is to reduce the frustration of users when they don’t know about the temporary disruption in services. In the future, when Instagram experiences an outage or a technical issue, there will be a notification in the Activity Feed, along with a notification when it gets fixed.
The new Account Status will be the place where users can get information about their account, such as whether their account is at risk of being disabled. In the future, Instagram plans to expand upon this section with information such as showing users how their content is being distributed and recommended across different parts of Instagram.
Account Status will also be the place where users can “Request a Review”, if they feel that their post was unfairly removed.
Instagram is first outage notifications for users in the US, and will later roll it out globally over the coming months. The Account Status feature should be rolling out to users over the coming weeks.
