Apple is gearing up to open its first two retail stores in India in Mumbai and Delhi, and the company has started hiring employees for the store in various locations in the country on its careers website. Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple will open its first retail store in India in 2021 and is seeking approvals from the government for it.
Rumours about Apple’s own retail outlet in India surfaced back in 2017. Apple started selling its products on its Apple India website last year. A report from 2019 said that Apple has chosen Mumbai’s Maker Maximity Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) as the venue for its first own India outlet and added that Apple has leased around 20,000-25,000 sq ft space for its outlet and is spread over three floors in the Maker Maximity Mall.
A recent report from ET said that the Apple is planning to open the first store in Mumbai on August 15, 2022 which will be immediately followed by the second retail store in New Delhi. Looks like the launch might happen before that.
There are also rumours of an Apple opening a store in Bengaluru as well. The company is also said to be planning to open one more store, each in Delhi and Mumbai.
We should know more details about Apple’s retail store plans for India in the coming months.
