Samsung introduces new Neo QLED 4K and 8K TVs with 144Hz refresh rate; to bring NFT support to select 2022 models


Ahead of CES later this week, Samsung has introduced new MICRO LED, Neo QLED and Lifestyle TVs. This includes the new Neo QLED 4K and 8K TVs with support for up to 144Hz refresh rate compared to 120Hz in the older models. These also support AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro, and all HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1 and support 4K 120Hz.

The Neo Quantum Processor offers advanced contrast mapping with BLU (back-light unit) for 14-bit brightness gradation for greater control of the light source. This lets lighting of Quantum Mini LEDs to be controlled across 16,384 steps, four times that of the older model. The processor also offers The new Shape Adaptive Light technology  to analyze lines, shapes and surfaces to control the shape of light from the Quantum Mini LEDs, enhancing the brightness and accuracy of all shapes on the screen.

The models also features Real Depth Enhancer, a multi-intelligence picture quality algorithm that creates a greater sense of realism by determining and processing an object on the screen against its background to create a sense of depth.

Additionally, the EyeComfort mode automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness and tone based on a built-in light sensor and sunset/sunrise information. Finally, the Neo QLEDs feature OTS (Object Tracking Sound) Pro, which incorporates powerful up-firing speakers to create overhead surround sound. These also have Dolby Atmos, thanks to the addition of Samsung’s new top channel speakers.

The Neo QLEDs are also optimized with the new Smart Hub that enables smart content curation, cloud gaming that includes NVIDIA GeForce Now, Stadia and Utomik to start with, video calls, on-screen multitasking, NFTs management and Smart Calibration to fine tune the settings for optimal picture quality.

The NFT Platform app features an intuitive, integrated platform for discovering, purchasing and trading digital artwork. This is available on MICRO LED, Neo QLED and The Frame.

The new MICRO LED will come in three different sizes – 110”, 101” and 89”. These support 20-bit greyscale depth offering the finest control with over 1 million steps of brightness and color levels, delivering a true HDR experience. The models also support 100% of DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut, and have 99.99% screen-to-body ratio. Other features include Art Mode, Multi View and Dolby Atmos.

Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle models – Frame, The Sero and The Serif get a new Matte Display with anti-glare, anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint properties. Samsung says that these have received three verifications from UL (Underwriter Laboratories) for being ‘Reflection Glare Free’, ‘Discomfort Glare Free’ and ‘Disability Glare Free’.

We should know more details including the price of the new TVs when these new TVs are introduced at the CES later this week.
