Samsung promised 3 generations of OS upgrades for major S series, latest Foldables and select A series smartphones in 2022. According to a leaked Galaxy Tab S8 series press release from @evleaks, Samsung is planning to increase this to 4 years for its latest flagships.
Last year, Samsung promised 4 years of security updates since its initial launch date, now the latest flagships are expected to get 5 years of security updates. Samsung already offers 5 years of security updates for its enterprise edition Galaxy devices.
List of eligible devices that are expected to get 4 generations of Android OS updates and 5 years of security updates
- Galaxy S series: Galaxy S22 Ultra, S21 Ultra, S22+, S21+, S22, S21, S21 FE
- Galaxy Foldable devices: Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, Z Flip3 5G
- Tablets: Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, Tab S8+, Tab S8
Since the Galaxy S21 FE, S22 series and the Tab S8 series come with Android 12 out of the box, these should get up to Android 16, and security updates till early 2027.
It is not clear if the upcoming Galaxy A series phones, the Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A73, will be added to the list in the future.
