The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are now certified for Verizon’s C-Band service, and consumers may start using them right away. Customers with Pixel 6 devices will be able to use Verizon’s mid-band airwaves after the update. It stands between Sub-6 and mmWave 5G, as the term suggests. While not quite as quick as the latter, C-band is a significant improvement over the former.
Google also disclosed that its older devices will not receive the same level of support in the United States. In announcing the information to the public on the Pixel phone community, Google also stated that C-Band will not be available in the United States for the Pixel 5a and earlier.
The Pixel 5 is packed with the requisite hardware to support the C-Band, which was approved by the FCC earlier this year. In reality, things may be different in other countries, as older 5G-capable Pixel models have C-band competent technology and are officially approved for use in specific countries. It’s unknown whether things will progress in the near future.
As stated in a community post,
At this time, we do not have any plans to support C-band operation in the U.S. on Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5, or Pixel 5a (5G). These models will continue to have access to the Sub 6 and mmW services provided based on your carrier, plan, and location”
