Samsung T7 Shield rugged portable SSD launched in India

Samsung today launched the T7, which is a rugged version of the T7 SSD which was launched in 2020. It is the company’s most durable portable SSD to date since it is shock-resistant from drops of up to three meters, while being IP65-certified as dustproof and water-resistant. Even though it has a rugged design, it is compact and lightweight, weighing just 98 grams.

It has a read speed of 1,050 megabytes per second (MB/s) and a write speed of 1,000 MB/s. It comes with USB 3.2 Gen.2 (10Gbps) interface. Samsung said that it has optimized the inside and outside of the product, by changing the surface material and improving the software in the T7 Shield, to solve the performance degradation and overheating that occur when transferring large files.

The SSD has 256-bit AES, Advanced Encryption Standard with hardware encryption. It has Samsung’s Magician Software, which lets users to conveniently manage the drive.

The T7 Shield uses one-third of the tray packaging compared to prior generations, while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions during its production through production efficiency, said Samsung.

Pricing and availability

The Samsung T7 Shield comes in beige, black and blue colours, is priced at Rs. 12,999 for the 1TB model and the 2TB model costs Rs. 22,999. It will be available at all Samsung retail stores, leading consumer electronics stores, and across online platforms, including Samsung’s official online store Samsung Shop.
