Worldwide app downloads reached 37 billion last quarter, according to Sensor Tower’s Q1 2022 Data Digest. Sensor Tower looks at the top apps, games, and publishers from the first three months of the year 2022. During the first quarter of 2022, applications in the games as well as finance categories on the App Store and Google Play began to show signs of improvement.
Sensor Tower has just released its new Q1 2022 Data Digest, and it says that it has looked at the most popular apps and game makers from the quarter, as well as a lot of other things. In total, nearly 37 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store and Google Play in total. TikTok has already surpassed 3.5 billion downloads, making it the fifth app to do so. Instagram’s quarter-over-quarter downloads were down by 7%, but it was still the app’s second-best figure since at least 2014.
The non-game apps in each publisher’s portfolio accounted for the vast majority of downloads in the third quarter, placing Meta, Google, and ByteDance at the top of the global publisher rankings. Most of the top 10 were video game publishers. In the second half of the quarter, Meta came out on top with more than 600 million downloads, just beating out Google.
In the Sensor Tower assessment for the first quarter of 2022, Telegram was ranked as the fifth most popular social media application in the world. According to Sensor Tower data, with more than 100 million downloads around the world, Telegram has risen to 5th place in global downloads.
According to a survey from January 2021, Telegram was the most downloaded app, with 63 million downloads in just that one month alone. It is estimated that in Q1 2022, 37 billion people worldwide will have installed the apps outlined in the research on Apple’s App Store and Google Play.

Of these top 5 most popular apps, Telegram is the only one that doesn’t spend billions on marketing to buy downloads.
