EA has confirmed that it is developing a new mobile RPG based on the Lord of the Rings universe’s landscapes, characters, and historical narrative. The forthcoming RPG title, The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth, was recently unveiled via an official announcement.
EA has teamed up with Middle-earth Enterprises, a division of the famed American producer-led Saul Zaents Company, to create the game. The companies want to work together to make a LOTR game that both fans and newcomers can enjoy. They want to bring the magic and excitement of the literary world to smartphones. According to EA, the LOTR game will be strategic, social, and competitive. They can explore J.R.R. Tolkien’s immense environment, battle through iconic narratives, and combat the great evils of Middle-earth.
For all of those unaware, EA has already developed Lord of the Rings-themed PC and platform titles such as The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, and the first Lord of the Rings game, The Two Towers.
Unfortunately, EA has yet to divulge any other information on the anticipated title. In terms of availability, the firm has announced that selective regional beta testing will begin in the summer of 2022. The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth would be a free-to-play, collectible RPG on Android and iOS.
Speaking on the announcement, Malachi Boyle, Vice President of Mobile RPG for Electronic Arts, said,
We are incredibly excited to partner with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises on the next generation of mobile role-playing games.
The team is filled with fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and each day they bring their tremendous passion and talents together to deliver an authentic experience for players. The combination of high-fidelity graphics, cinematic animations, and stylized art immerses players in the fantasy of Middle-earth where they’ll go head-to-head with their favorite characters.
