According to a prominent Apple analyst named Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is reportedly testing electronic paper display (EPD) technology for potential implementation in future foldable versions of iPhones or iPads. Even though Apple foldable device lineup has yet to emerge.
Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted that Apple is testing e-ink displays for foldable iPhones and iPads. The firm is likely developing folding prototypes, including one with a secondary display, much like the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Kuo adds e-ink might be used in the exterior panel, and it’s something better for the main screen. The secondary screen would use e-ink technology owing to its power-saving features. Apple could use e-ink on the cover screen to show notifications, updates, and more, while also making the battery last longer.
According to rumors, Apple is working on a foldable device with an 8-inch screen that will be released around the year 2023. In terms of display specs, this device will fall halfway between an iPhone and an iPad.
According to Kuo, Apple’s foldable device roadmap would initially concentrate on medium-sized smartphones, then move on to devices with larger displays, and then finally move to small devices much like the iPhone.
