We have been covering about windows mobile and you might know about the upcoming 6.5 version of the OS. If you are a mobile developer and want to develop applications for the new phones running WinMo 6.5, we just heard from Microsoft that developers can now submit applications to the Marketplace (from May 1st)
Below is a copy information we received about the mobile market from Microsoft
Windows Mobile 6.5 features Windows® Marketplace for Mobile, a rich and integrated marketplace for searching, browsing and purchasing mobile applications from Windows® phones or from a PC by simply using a Windows Live ID. The new marketplace will be included with all Windows phones based on Windows Mobile 6.5, which will help consumers to easily find, install and experience those applications that fit their needs and make the phone truly personal. Developers, who have already built over 20,000 applications for Windows phones, will be able to offer applications to customers through the marketplace via a simple security and compatibility check from Microsoft.
For developers, the marketplace presents a tremendous opportunity to generate revenue by selling their applications directly to millions of Windows phone users. In addition, Windows Marketplace for Mobile also empowers mobile operators to increase data plan attach rates and generate a new revenue stream from application sales.
The new marketplace provides direct-to-phone mobile applications and can be accessed from both the phone and the Web. Thereby benefitting the consumer and improving his overall experience. The service will offer full commerce capabilities in 29 countries including India hence, opening the doors for Indian developers to submit applications. This will only prove beneficial for the Indian consumer as they will also have India specific applications to choose from. The other countries supported include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico and Netherlands.
We would have a chance to interact with the Microsoft India Folks. If you have any questions. Post them here.
We will pass them on to Microsoft.
