MediaTek T830 for 5G routers and mobile hotspots announced

As a new addition to its 5G portfolio (CPE), MediaTek showed off today the T830 platform, which works with 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) routers with mobile hotspot customer-premise equipment. The MediaTek M80 modem, which powers the T830 and features enhanced Release 16 technologies for sub-6GHz band operations, makes the platform perfect for 5G networks all over the world. Earlier, MediaTek Filogic 880 and 380 Wi-Fi 7 platforms were announced.

The T830’s highly integrated, minimalist architecture cuts development time and costs for device makers. With the T830, operators can offer 5G speeds of up to 7Gbps right out-of-the-box by using sub-6GHz cellular infrastructure instead of spending money on landlines.

People may be able to get super-fast internet through a small device they can set up themselves, getting rid of the long waits for installing fixed line broadband.

The T830 incorporates a primary SoC with a 3GPP Release-16 5G cellular modem, a quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 CPU, a sub-6GHz RF transceiver, a GNSS receiver, and accompanying PMICs. The main SoC offers a built-in Network Processing Unit (NPU) as well as a Wi-Fi offload engine to provide multi-gigabit routing between 5G cellular and Ethernet or Wi-Fi without CPU participation, delivering speed and power-efficiency.

The T830 may be paired with MediaTek’s award-winning Filogic Wi-Fi solutions. For 5G FWA routers, combine the T830 with the Filogic 680. (Tri-band 4×4 Wi-Fi 7). The T830 can be coupled with the Filogic 380 for 5G hotspots (dual-band 2×2 Wi-Fi 7). All of these systems support new Wi-Fi 7 features such as MLO and 320 MHz broad channels.

MediaTek T830 platform: Features
  • The built-in M80 modem leverages MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave technology for all 5G connections.
  • The M80 modem supports 5G NSA/SA, sub-6GHz connectivity up to 4CC-CA, and mixed duplex FDD/TDD.
  • Support for dual 5G SIM (DSDS)
  • Connectivity features Three PCI-Express root complex controllers, USB 3.2, two 10GbE USXGMII interfaces, and PCM/SPI for RJ11 phone lines.
  • It features an integrated 3D GPU with a display driver.
  • Compatibility for RDK-B, prplOS, and OpenSync to approach with Tier-1 operators’ open OS framework specifications.

Speaking on the announcement, JC Hsu, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of MediaTek’s wireless communications business unit, said,
