POCO M5 Unboxing and First Impressions

POCO launched the M5, its mid-range smartphone in India today, along with the global launch. It features a 6.58-inch FHD+ 90Hz display, has triple rear cameras, and comes with a 5000mAh battery. Here we have the first impressions of the phone.

Box Contents

  • POCO M5 6GB + 128GB storage version in POCO Yellow colour
  • USB Type-C Cable
  • 2-pin 22.5W charger
  • SIM ejector tool
  • Clear protective case
  • User manual

The phone features a 6.58-inch FHD+ IPS LCD notch screen with 30Hz/60Hz/90Hz adaptive refresh rate and has 240Hz touch sampling rate. The screen is bright, so it is decent in outdoor conditions. The screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The phone has a 8MP camera on the front. The earpiece is on the top edge, but it doesn’t double up as a secondary speaker.

Powered by Helio G99 6nm SoC, the POCO M5 packs 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB (UFS 2.2) storage options. The phone runs Android 12 with MIUI 13 on top.

The volume rockers and the power button that also comes with a fingerprint scanner are present on the right. It has dual SIM and a microSD card slot on the left arranged in a single tray. The 3.5mm audio jack is present on the top along with the IR sensor. The loudspeaker speaker grill, USB Type-C port and the primary microphone are present on the bottom. It has Splash proof P2i coating.

On the back there are triple rear cameras that include a 50-megapixel primary ISOCELL JN1 sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 2-megapixel macro and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture and LED flash. The camera is decent for the price.  Check out some camera samples below.

The phone has a two-tone design with a shiny finish near the camera part and an anti-fingerprint leather-like finish below that. This offers a good grip, so you might need to use the case to prevent scratches in the top part. Even thought the phone weighs 201 grams, the weight distribution is good, so it doesn’t feel that heavy.

The POCO M5 has a huge, 5000mAh battery and supports 18W charging via USB Type-C, even though it comes with a 22.5W charger in the box. The POCO M3 had a 6000mAh battery.

Priced starting at Rs. 12,499 for the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage version, it will be available from Flipkart starting from September 13th from 12 noon. ICICI card and Axis Bank card users get a Rs. 1500 discount, so the effective starting price of the phone is Rs. 10,999.
