Recently, the WhatsApp messaging app has been adding a slew of new features to its platform. Now it looks like the platform is developing a new tool that lets you import backed-up data from local storage. This was spotted on the Google Play Beta Program version 2.22.20.10 of the application.
Previously, WABetaInfo reported a feature called “Export Backup” that will let you export the backup from Google Drive that includes the full chat history, such as your messages, images, videos, and other media files. Now with this latest beta version of WhatsApp, it is clear that it is working on the ability to import such backups.
As shown in this screenshot, a new option called “import” will make it simple for you to import that exported backup when you attempt to log into WhatsApp from a different device (or the same one, if you have reinstalled the app).
This new feature will let you export a backup, so you can import it later when you don’t have Wi-Fi and WhatsApp had already made a local backup for you automatically, based on a schedule you have set.
The feature is currently under development, and it’s unclear when WhatsApp will roll out the feature. We should get more information about this feature in the coming days.
