MediaTek has introduced Dimensity 1080, the company’s latest mid-range 5G SoC with TSMC’s 6nm process technology. It has an octa-core CPU designed with Arm Cortex-A78 cores operating at up to 2.6GHz and four Arm Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at 2GHz, same the the Dimensity 1100 that was introduced last year.
However, the company says that this is the successor to the Dimensity 920 that was introduced a year back, since it retains almost simlar specifications as the chip including the ARM Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. It has HyperEngine 3.0 gaming enhancements for speedy performance and seamless connectivity, along with the chipset’s integrated AI processing unit 3.0 (APU 3.0) for optimal power efficiency.
The chip has up to 200MP camera support, compared to 108MP in the predecessor, and has support for sub-6GHz 5G networks and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
