Google Pixel 7 Unboxing and First Impressions

Google launched the Pixel 7 smartphone in India last week. India is getting the flagship Pixel phone after 4 years. The Pixel 7 has a slightly smaller screen compared to the Pixel 6, comes with a new Tensor G2 SoC, and the rear camera bar is different this time. Here we have the first impressions of the phone.

Box Contents

  • Pixel 7 in Obsidian colour
  • USB-C to USB-C Cable (USB 2.0)
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Quick Switch Adaptor
  • SIM Ejector Tool

The phone has a 6.32-inch FHD+ OLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate, same as the Pixel 6, but this has up to 1400 nits brightness, making it 25%  brighter than the predecessor. The screen is bright, and the viewing angles are good. It has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

You can also see the tiny bottom bezel, but the bezels on the sides and the top are minimal. It runs Android 13. The company has promised 5 years of security updates for the phone, and it should get 3 years of OS updates.

There is a centre punch-hole display that houses an 10.8MP camera, an upgrade compared to 8MP in the Pixel 6, hence it supports 4K video recording. Since this is small, it doesn’t disturb when watching videos. The earpiece on the top doubles up as the secondary speaker. The front camera also works for face unlock, but is not secure, so you can’t enable it for secured payments.

The phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner, which is the same as the Pixel. It has the Google Tensor G2 SoC along with Titan M2 security chip. This is slightly faster than the first gen, and the performance is good. We will have to check if it heats up quickly on intensive use such as gaming.

The phone has a zirconia-blasted matte aluminum frame, so it doesn’t attract fingerprints. You can see the antenna bands around the phone. The power button and volume rockers are present on the right side. The single SIM slot is present on the left side, and the phone has eSIM support. The phone has 5G support, but Google has not enabled 5G in India yet, but it has confirmed that it will get an update soon. The USB Type-C port, microphone and speaker grill are present on the bottom. The secondary microphone is present on the top.

The phone has a metal camera bar with a matte finish. This has a 50MP main camera with f/1.85 aperture and OIS. There is a secondary 12MP 114° Ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture. It has up to 4K 60 fps video recording for the front and rear cameras. In addition to Night Sight, Top Shot, Motion Auto Focus, Live HDR+, Cinematic Pan, there is Photo unblur, Cinematic Blur for portrait video, and 10-bit HDR video recording that also works with Snap, TikTok and YouTube.

Check out some camera samples.

Similar to the Pixel 6, this has a glass back, and it has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the back as well. The phone also has IP68 ratings for water resistance.  The phone packs a 4355mAh battery, which is actually smaller than the 4614mAh battery in the Pixel 6. Even the Pixel 6a has a 4410mAh battery. It has up to 30W wired fast charging and also has wireless charging.

The Pixel 7 also comes in Lemongrass and Snow colours. It is already available for pre-order from Flipkart for Rs. 59,999 (MRP), and will go on sale from tomorrow, October 13th.
