Digitimes strikes again with news that Apple plans to fit curved glass displays in the next iPhone . Cover glass manufacturers have been reported to be reluctant to invest the large amount of capital required to procure machines capable of making curved glass panels in sufficient quantities. Due to this Apple has had to procure 200-300 curved glass cutting machines to make displays for its upcoming iPhone 5 .
Digitimes adds that large scale production is yet to begin as the company is still working with component manufacturers to improve yield rates. Apple has previously experimented with curved glass technology on the iPod Nano. Curved glass displays have recently found appeal in handsets like the Nexus S , Dell Venue and the upcoming HTC Sensation.
