Samsung India said that it continues to lead the broader smartphone market by sales for the 10th year running. The company said that it sold a record number of smartphones during the festive season.
This is driven by premium devices such as Galaxy S22 series and the recently-launched foldable smartphones, according to Aditya Babbar, Senior Director and Head of Product Marketing, Mobile Business at Samsung India.
Samsung said that it added revenue of Rs. 14,400 crore through sales of smartphones, wearables and tablets during the two months of September and October, making it the best Diwali sales.
In September, during the festive sales, Samsung said that it sold more than 1.2 million or 12 lakh Galaxy devices worth over Rs. 1000 crore on day 1 of online sales, creating a new record in India.
During the festive months, Samsung said that its smartphone sales grew in healthy double digits on the back of strong demand for premium devices (Rs 30,000 and above). Samsung said its premium smartphone sale has nearly doubled in the current year (January-September 2022) over last year.
According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung was the fastest-growing brand in the premium segment in India during the third quarter ending September 2022. Samsung led the 5G smartphone segment in India for the fourth straight quarter, Counterpoint added.
Samsung said that it has the biggest 5G portfolio in India, with more than 20 5G smartphones and tablets selling in the country.
