A new Instagram update tells you why: “Your posts aren’t being seen.” Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced with a new tool today.
It is an update to the app’s existing “Account status” features that will show you if any of your posted content is keeping your account from being seen by more people. Recently, Meta introduced new privacy updates on Facebook and Instagram to protect teens.
Professional accounts can now monitor to see if any of their posts are restricted from being suggested to users who do not follow them in the settings menu, under account and then account status.
Recommendations appear on the Explore page and in the home feed and have grown increasingly important to the site as parent firm Meta strives to compete with TikTok. Meta intends to more than double the quantity of recommended material consumers view on their feeds by the end of 2023.
Instagram’s more stringent “recommendations guidelines,” which determine whether content is suitable to appear in areas like “Explore” or as recommended content to users who don’t already follow you, may make content that doesn’t violate its written community guidelines ineligible.
Here’s how to get to Account Status Update on Instagram:
Profile ⇾ Menu ⇾ Settings ⇾ Account ⇾ Account Status
Your entire account may “end up in a position where it’s not eligible for your photos and videos to come up,” according to Mosseri, if you violate these unpublished restrictions. This greatly restricts your audience because only those who actively desire to follow you will be able to see your posts.
The changes to the account status page will probably rile up authors who have suspected “shadowbanning,” or the suppression of particular content. The new feature will at least help people and businesses figure out why they aren’t reaching as many users and give them more information about why their reach is going down.
Announcing the update, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, said
We’re expanding Account Status so professional accounts can understand if their content may be eligible to be recommended to non-followers.
