Instagram rolls out new tools to recover hacked accounts

Today, Meta introduces new tools aimed to help keep people’s accounts safe and offer them greater support if they lose account access, as part of its commitment to fostering a safe and supportive community for everyone who uses Instagram. Recently, Instagram rolled out Notes, Group Profiles, and more.

Additional Account Support

If you can’t log in, go to Instagram.com/hacked. Next, choose if you’ve been hacked, forgotten your password, lost two-factor authentication, or your account has been disabled.

  • Instagram.com/hacked – According to Instagram, it is a place where users can go to report and fix problems with their account access.
  • You can then follow a number of procedures to get account access. If you have numerous accounts, you can choose which one needs help.

Instagram said it started testing a means for people to ask their friends to authenticate their identity earlier this year; this option is now open to everyone. If you’re locked out of Instagram, you can choose two friends to verify your identity.

Keeping Your Account Secure

In addition to new account support and recovery methods, the company is also testing ways to stop Instagram accounts from being hacked in the first place.

  • To begin, it will delete accounts that our automated algorithms identify as harmful, including those that impersonate others, which violates our community guidelines.
  • Second, because bad actors don’t always exploit accounts maliciously right away, Instagram is experimenting with issuing alerts when an account we believe is impersonating someone requests to follow you.
  • In the coming months, Instagram will also provide you with notifications if an account impersonating a company sends you a Direct Message (DM).
Blue verified badge for verified accounts

Instagram is now displaying the “Blue verified” badge for verified accounts in more locations throughout the platform. So, users can immediately evaluate if the account they are talking with is legitimate.

In addition to Profiles, you can now view verified blue badges in Stories and Direct Messages (DMs), and the company has also stated that they will soon be available in Feed.

Sharing the new tools, Instagram posted that

We’re committed to fostering a safe and supportive community for everyone who uses Instagram. There are some easy things you can do to help keep your account safe, like making sure you have a strong password and enabling two-factor authentication.

In addition to these ongoing safety tools, we’re excited to highlight several new features designed to help keep people’s accounts safe, and offer them more support if they lose account access.
