Google has revealed that its search engine will become more visually appealing, natural, and user-friendly thanks to the implementation of its latest AI technology. The integration of images and videos is expected to enhance the overall search experience and help users more easily access information.
Google notes that AI has played a critical role in improving search results by enabling better language understanding since the inception of the search engine.
Google Lens to get “search your screen” on Android
Google is using its lens technology to make information more accessible by connecting users to the world through visual means. Users can already utilize Lens to search through their camera or photos directly from the search bar.
This means that they will be able to search for information within photos and videos across various websites and apps without having to leave the app they’re currently using, such as messaging or video apps.
If you want to find out more information about a landmark you spot in the background of a photo or video, you can do so by pressing the power or home button on your Android phone for a long time, which will activate Google Assistant. Then, you can tap on “search screen” and Lens will identify the landmark for you.
Multisearch
Google has introduced a feature called Multisearch that allows users to search using a combination of text and images. This new way of searching offers new opportunities for expression.
The feature has been further improved with the addition of local search capabilities, which enable users to find what they need by taking a picture and adding “near me” to their search query. This feature is currently available in English in the US, and will be expanded globally in the near future.
In addition, users will soon be able to use Multisearch globally on any image they see on the search results page on their mobile devices. For example, if a user is searching for “modern living room ideas” and sees a coffee table they like, they can use Multisearch to find the same style in a different shape, such as a rectangle instead of a circle, by adding the text “rectangle” to their search query.
Availability
In the upcoming months, the feature of using Lens to “search your screen” will be available globally for Android users. Starting today, the Multisearch feature is available globally on mobile devices and supports all languages in countries where Lens is available.
Speaking on the announcement, Elizabeth Reid, VP, Search, said,
Our products at Google have a singular goal: to be as helpful to you as possible, in moments big and small. And we’ve long believed that artificial intelligence can supercharge how we deliver on that goal.
We’re creating search experiences that are more natural and visual — but we’ve only scratched the surface. In the future, with the help of AI, the possibilities will be endless.
