Qualcomm introduces Aware Platform to simplify, accelerate IoT across multiple industries

Qualcomm today announced the Qualcomm Aware Platform, which will provide a set of differentiated services for managing assets that necessitate critical, accurate, and time-sensitive decision-making. This is a kind of industrial intelligence solution that allows developers and businesses to use real-time information and data insights to accelerate their digital transformation initiatives.

Qualcomm believes that ecosystem fragmentation and system design complexity frequently prevent IoT deployments from reaching their full potential, and for this platform, it intends to combine industry-leading silicon with an extensive ecosystem of hardware and software partners, as well as a developer-friendly cloud framework.

When it comes to the business model behind Qualcomm Aware, the company claims that it creates the opportunity to offer and monetize services other than chipset sales through recurring, subscription-based revenues. Software will be updated on a regular basis, resulting in a slew of new and improved features for Qualcomm-aware managed devices.

Qualcomm Aware: A New Baseline for IoT across Industries

This platform will leverage Qualcomm’s leadership in IoT modem chipsets, which is over 350 million units to date, and the recently acquired Skyhook Wireless firm and the assets of PoLTE Corporation, which have added proprietary positioning techniques.

These purchases, when combined with Qualcomm Technologies’ existing location technology, will allow Qualcomm Aware to provide always-on, low-power, intelligent location services to all users. This powerful location technology suite enables end-to-end asset and operational visibility, helps businesses everywhere be better informed and prepared, and works even in the most challenging signal environments like indoors, underground, and when devices are offline.

Qualcomm Aware cooperates with hardware and software partners to rapidly develop connected solutions for various use cases. Working with a variety of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and System Integrators (SIs), Qualcomm Aware blueprints will allow enterprises to quickly and efficiently roll out pre-designed solutions tailored to their needs.

The platform’s API-first architecture and developer-friendly tools, which enable interoperability with partner clouds and leading enterprise software tools, are another key pillar.

Qualcomm Aware: Implementation and Supporting Partners

Qualcomm Aware will initially target companies involved in supply chains and logistics. Furthermore, it will aid in critical use cases such as cold chain distribution, utility asset monitoring, cargo shipment tracking, and warehouse and inventory management.

Leading enterprises from a variety of industries, such as Microsoft and Tech Mahindra, have already expressed their support for the Qualcomm Aware Platform’s release. The complete list of companies can be found in the image below.

Regarding the announcement, Jeff Torrance, senior vice president and general manager, connected smart systems, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said,

Qualcomm Technologies is rapidly diversifying with new opportunities powering the connected intelligent edge and today we are proud to unveil our latest IoT milestone – Qualcomm Aware.

Qualcomm Aware is designed to support organizations across industries with a scalable, cost-effective, capital efficient investment solution that delivers an accelerated time to market, simplifies digital transformation, and delivers transformative insights needed to mitigate risk, make more informed business decisions, and navigate challenges across industries.
