Today, Nokia revealed the Beacon 10, their first gateway to support Wi-Fi 6E for providing secure, high-capacity mesh networking. The Beacon 10 was first shown at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, alongside Nokia’s brand refresh for B2B Innovation.
Nokia Beacon 10
This tri-band device is capable of 10Gbps Wi-Fi throughput, and contains a 10G WAN interface to pair with 10 Gb/second fiber modems for multi-gigabit services to the home.
Quick specifications: Nokia Beacon 10 Wi-Fi 6E Gateway
- Nokia Wi-Fi mesh creates a seamless Wi-Fi 6E network throughout the home
- True tri-band leverage the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands
- High-speed connectivity to the Internet (10 Gbps)
- High-speed connectivity in the home (2.5 Gbps LAN port and Wi-Fi capacity of AX10200)
- Extend the coverage with up to five Beacon 10 units
- Simple, app-based setup and management.
Nokia Wi-Fi Mobile App
The Nokia Wi-Fi mobile app is equipped with a number of helpful features, from analytics to parental control. It ensures the network is simple to create and manage. The app also provides customers with step-by-step instructions on how to install or expand the Wi-Fi network.
10G Fiber & Wi-Fi 6E
The roll-out of 10G fiber requires upgrades to home and business Wi-Fi to support speedier devices. Wi-Fi 6E, with its faster speeds and lower latencies, is ideal for applications like home entertainment and home working.
Nokia has upgraded its Wi-Fi Cloud Controller to act as a User Services Platform (USP) controller. It is based on the open-source OB-USPA and can be managed by any USP controller, including the Nokia Wi-Fi Cloud Control.
Nokia’s Wi-Fi Management Console
At Mobile World Congress, Nokia introduced an all-in-one console to enable optimal Wi-Fi management and optimization. This console will be available to customer care operators, network administrators, on-site technicians, and level 3 support staff to help with troubleshooting, optimization, and management.
Eco-System of App Developers
To further ensure customer service providers (CSPs) can deliver value-added services to their customers, Nokia has created an ecosystem of app developers. The Beacon 10 supports F-Secure’s latest cybersecurity application, which is delivered as a containerized application.
Speaking on the announcement, Dirk Verhaegen, VP Broadband Devices, Nokia, said:
We are proud to introduce Nokia’s first Wi-Fi 6E product for premium, high-performance Wi-Fi in the home and office. Not only does it offer faster speeds, but it also supports 3rd party applications and a USP agent to be fully compatible with multiple controllers, making it much easier for operators to manage. Third party apps and USP are both of strategic interest to Nokia and we will include them in all new broadband devices we introduce, as well as retro-fitting to select existing equipment.
Commenting on the announcement, Michael Philpott, Research Director, Digital Consumer Services at Omdia, said:
Vendors like Nokia are paving the path for the next generation of in-home broadband devices with a container application framework that separates the application from the operating system. F-Secure is the first partner to fully leverage Nokia’s application ecosystem to bring its cybersecurity solution to Nokia broadband devices using this innovative and open environment.
