BlackBerry launches IoT ‘Center of Excellence’ in India

BlackBerry Limited has launched the ‘BlackBerry IoT Center of Excellence, Engineering and Innovation’ in Hyderabad, India, to recruit India’s top embedded software engineers.

Using BlackBerry QNX’s safety-certified product portfolio and award-winning in-vehicle software platform, BlackBerry IVY, the center will create next-gen software-defined-vehicles (SDVs) and drive innovation in other Internet of Things (IoT) industries.

BlackBerry has announced plans to up its operations in India and beyond, with a Hyderabad facility set to host over 100 software engineers by 2023. The teams will use the QNX Software Development Platform (SDP) to design and accelerate the development of secure, real-time systems.

This includes QNX Accelerate, offering QNX in the Cloud to accelerate product development. Later in 2023, BlackBerry IVY software development will roll out, bringing developers and OEMs closer to the innovation cycle and offering access to benefits such as optimized data processing using on-vehicle machine learning (ML).

BlackBerry QNX is used by a wide range of major players in the auto industry, having been embedded in 215 million vehicles worldwide, and is trusted by customers such as Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Stellantis, BMW, Aptiv, Bosch, Ford, GM, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Volkswagen for safety-related systems.

Furthermore, 24 of the top 25 EV automakers rely on BlackBerry’s secure software to power their autonomous driving vehicles. This reaffirms BlackBerry’s commitment to advancing SDV innovation.
