Twitter Blue goes global; ‘Legacy’ verified checkmarks are going away starting from April 1

Twitter has announced that it will stop verifying accounts for free starting April 1, 2023. Previously verified accounts will lose their checkmarks unless they pay for Twitter Blue or the business-focused Twitter Verified Organizations plan.

New Twitter Blue subscription

Twitter has launched the new and improved Twitter Blue subscription globally, months after its initial launch. As part of this update, Twitter will remove verified checkmarks from “legacy” accounts.

The subscription offers a range of new features, including a Verified checkmark, priority ranking in conversations, fewer ads, bookmark folders, customization of navigation, the ability to edit and undo tweets, and the ability to tweet with up to 4,000 characters. The subscription was previously only available in around 50 countries, but now users all over the world can access it.

Twitter Discontinues its legacy verified program

Twitter has announced its decision to discontinue its previous verification program, which granted a blue checkmark to accounts based on various criteria such as ID and notoriety. This decision was made alongside another announcement.

The program, which is considered a “legacy” program, had received mixed reactions due to its inconsistency in approving and denying accounts. Starting April 1, 2023, Twitter will remove verification badges from old verified accounts.

Pricing and availability

Twitter Blue in the U.S. costs $8/month or Rs. 650/month in month, but you get a 12% discount if you pay for a whole year. Other regions have a similar pricing structure, but with local currency adjustments.
