Pixel’s Adaptive Charging system might work without Alarms

Adaptive Charging may be adjusting to Pixel users seamlessly, without any disruptions, the latest report by 9to5Google suggests.

This intelligent feature is designed to protect your battery’s long-term health by delaying a full 100% charge until you wake up. Instead, your Pixel will charge up to 80% and wait for your morning alarm to trigger a full charge, ensuring that it’s fully charged and ready to go when you unplug it.

Google is Changing Alarm Window for Adaptive Charging

In 2020, Google’s alarm window for Adaptive Charging was set between 5 and 10 AM. Later, it was expanded to 3-10 AM. to cater to more sleep schedules. Despite this change, users were still unhappy with the need to manually set an alarm, instead of having the Pixel figure out their schedule automatically.

Adaptive Charging Works Without an Alarm

The need for a set alarm for Adaptive Charging seems to have been lifted, with users reporting its activation without an alarm. While some users may prefer using a Pixel Watch to wake up in the morning, Adaptive Charging is now an active feature.

To use Adaptive Charging, your phone must have the feature turned on, and it will work between 9 PM and 4 AM when an alarm is set for 3-10 AM. Setting an alarm can be done manually.

Adaptive Charging Automatically Targets Wake-Up Time

Reports indicate that Pixel phones are now using Adaptive Charging to target wake-up times without the need for an active alarm. Users have observed their phones holding at 80% with a notification that confirms a full charge by the time they usually wake up.

Speculations suggest that Google may have set 7 AM. as the default wake-up time for those without alarms to trigger Adaptive Charging. Another theory suggests that Pixel phones are automatically learning users’ wake-up times and using that information to activate Adaptive Charging.

The latest update to the Adaptive Charging feature has replaced “Uses alarm to completely charge by wake-up” with “Activated based on your cycle.” This change indicates that Adaptive Charging is now working smarter by adjusting to users’ habits and schedules.

However, the report does not provide a timeline for the release of these updates.
