Xiaomi 13 Ultra with Leica optics confirmed for April launch

After rumours, Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of Xiaomi 13 Ultra flagship smartphone with Leica optics in China this April. The company added that the phone will also launch globally in the coming months.

After the Xiaomi 12S series and the recent Xiaomi 13 Pro which used Leica optics, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will use the next-generation Leica Summicron lens for mobile imaging.

For the first time, different smartphone lenses from wide-angle to telephoto have achieved consistent excellent optical capabilities, said Leica.

Based on earlier rumours, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will feature a 6.7-inch Samsung LTPO E6 AMOLED QHD+ 120Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Gen2 SoC, up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 4.0 storage.

In terms of optics, the phone is said to feature a 1″ 50MP Sony IMX989 main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and two 50MP telephoto lenses, and a 32MP front camera.

A render that surfaced a couple of months back revealed a large camera bump that bulges out across the top part of the back, and the flash has been moved to the top left, but this might not be the final position since the design might change. It should retain IP68 ratings.

The phone is expected to pack a 4900mAh battery with support for 90W fast charging and 50W wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging. We should know the exact launch date soon.
