On April 12th, Jio Cinema reported that 22 million or 2.2 crore viewers watched the CSK vs RR, Tata IPL match. Today, the company has announced that it has shattered its own record of viewership during the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match on April 17th, which clocked 24 million or 2.4 crore viewers.
In the current IPL 2023 season on the online live-streaming platform Jio Cinema, this is the highest ever viewership, said the company. In the last over of the second innings of the match, the number of viewers on Jio Cinema reached 24 million, said Jio Cinema.
This has broken the previous digital streaming viewership record for IPL which is 18.6 million by Disney+ Hotstar during the final match of the 2019 season, said the company.

Viacom18 has the Tata IPL digital streaming rights from 2023-27, and the Disney Star has acquired the 5-year TV broadcast rights. Jio-Cinema said that digital is seeing its direct benefit, and it is streaming IPL matches for free, which has boosted IPL’s viewership on the digital platform.
However, this might change from next year since the company is expected to start charging for the content soon after the IPL is over.
As the IPL moves towards the finals, the number of viewers on Jio-Cinema is expected to increase. The company said that millions of new viewers are connecting to IPL daily through its Jio Cinema app.
Jio-Cinema said that it is creating records in terms of sponsors and advertisers as well. It added that top global and Indian brands are gravitating towards Jio Cinema. Leaving TV behind, Jio-Cinema said that it has also tied up with 23 major sponsors.
