Nothing founder Carl Pei teased the USB Type C-C cable with a transparent design earlier this week. Today, the company has revealed more details about the design and material choices for the cable that has been 2 years in the development.
Nothing said that the cable was originally supposed to launch alongside Phone (1) last year, but the implementation was not easy. Nothing said that the team built over 20 design concepts, but many designs were rejected by the partners as it was deemed too difficult to manufacture.
- The transparent shell uses an industry-first moulding process to create a seamless iron shell, stretching the material four times and annealing it at more than 1,000 degrees three times. This creates a flawless design free from lines and surface defects.
- The shell uses sandblasting, pre-plating, and electroless plating to keep them scratch-free.
- The Nothing Cable C-C passed over 25 tests including strict plugging and unplugging, salt spray and current resistance.
- The cable has been teased for bending and passing more than 16,000 times, 60% beyond industry standards.
