Netflix password-sharing crackdown expands globally, including India

During the earnings call today, Netflix has announced that it has started rolling out its password-sharing crackdown globally, including India, after expanding paid sharing to 100+ countries back in May.

The company is now sending an email to members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in the India. This says that people who are not in your household will need to sign up for their own account to watch. It also lets you transfer existing profiles to new and existing accounts.

Currently, the company doesn’t offer an extra member slot in India like it does in several countries, but this might be added in the future.

During the earnings call, Netflix said that it expect revenue growth to accelerate in the second half of 2023 as monetization grows from its
most recent paid sharing launch, which represents more than 80% of
our revenue base.

Basic ad-free plan removed in US and UK

Netflix has also phased out its Basic ads-free plan for new and rejoining members in US and the UK, after Canada. The company said that its entry prices in these countries – $6.99 in the US, £4.99 in the UK and $5.99 in Canada offers a great value to consumers given the breadth and
quality of our catalog.

Its Standard plans with ads support 2 devices at a time and lets you watch in Full HD, compared to basic plan with 1 supported device at a time and HD playback. If you don’t need ads, You will have to spend $15.49 / month in the US (extra member slots can be added for $7.99 each / month) and £10.99 / month in the UK (extra member slots can be added for £4.99 each / month).
