Amazon Prime Day 2023: 14% increase in shoppers


Amazon India’s 7th edition of Prime Day, held on Jul 15-16, was the biggest ever, offering Prime members great deals, new product launches, and blockbuster entertainment.

According to Amazon India, thousands of sellers, brands, and bank partners collaborated to provide Prime members with significant savings, totaling around Rs. 300 crores. This event saw remarkable growth in Prime membership, with 14% more members shopping compared to last year’s Prime Day.

Amazon India Prime Day Event 2023: Highlights

Savings and Deliveries
  • Prime Day 2023 saw the largest ever event for Amazon India, held on Jul 15-16.
  • Thousands of sellers, brands, and bank partners came together, offering Prime members savings of around INR 300 crores.
  • Prime members enjoyed faster deliveries, with the highest number of same-day deliveries.
  • In metros, 1 in 3 orders were delivered before Prime Day ended, while 1 in 2 orders in most Tier 1 & 2 cities arrived within two days.
  • Prime membership with 14% more members shopping compared to the previous year’s Prime Day.
Shopping Highlights
  • Prime members shopped from 45,000+ new products from over 400+ top Indian & global brands, as well as 2000+ new products from small and medium Indian businesses.
  • In Fashion and Beauty, Prime members bought a new pair of shoes every 0.4 seconds and a handbag every 1.6 seconds from top brands.
  • Toys recorded the highest single-day sales, with an average of 1.8 toys sold per second.
  • Popular purchases included front-load washing machines, headphones, apparel, shoes, luxury beauty products, smartphones, and baby products.
  • In the Grocery category, over 1 lakh litres of cooking oil, 7,000 kgs of tomatoes, and 23,000 kgs of sugar were sold on Amazon Fresh.

Smartphone category
  • Foldable smartphones grew 25x, and there was overwhelming demand for newly launched smartphones like OnePlus Nord 3 5G, Samsung Galaxy M34 5G, Realme Narzo 60 Series, and iQOO Neo 7 Pro 5G.
  • Motorola’s razr franchise became the top-selling foldable smartphone brand, with the razr40 Ultra leading in the ultra-premium segment and the razr40 series achieving the most flip phone sales during the event.
Electronics and Appliances
  • Every 2 seconds, an appliance was purchased from the Large Appliances category.
  • Premium electronics saw a spike, with 1 noise-canceling headphone sold every 20 seconds.
  • Televisions had a high demand, with 30 TVs sold every minute, especially premium 4K, QLED, and OLED TVs.
  • Amazon Devices were popular, with customers buying a Fire TV, Echo, or Kindle device every 2 seconds.
Prime Video and Music
  • Prime Video streamed 12 new movies and shows, with 8 of them making it to the top ten most popular titles on Prime Video India.
  • Viewership from 99% of India’s pin codes, with viewers from 4,490 cities and towns across India tuning in to watch the Prime Day titles.
  • Prime members listened to music in over 50+ languages during Prime Day on Amazon Music.
Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs)
  • SMBs received 20 orders every second during the event.
  • Over 90,000 SMB sellers received orders from Prime members across 19,000+ pin codes in India.
  • Over 15,000 SMBs saw their best-ever sales during Prime Day 2023, and over 500 SMBs received their best-ever sales day.
  • Small business-focused programs like Launchpad (a program designed to boost small businesses on the marketplace) and Local Shops launched over 800 new products.
Amazon Pay and Amazon Business
  • 45% of Prime members shopped with Amazon Pay during Prime Day, with 82% from Tier 2 & 3 cities.
  • Amazon Pay ICICI bank credit card was popular, used by 1 in 4 Prime members for shopping.
  • Amazon Pay’s recently launched the travel store with a 5% unlimited cashback for Prime members with the Amazon Pay ICICI bank credit card.
  • Through the Prime Day event, customers booked approximately 1.6 crore kms of domestic and international flights.
Amazon Business Growth

Amazon Business witnessed a 56% sales growth (vs Prime Day 2022), with significant growth in electronics, office furniture, and kitchen products and appliances.
