Airtel has announced that it has rolled out 5G services on 26 GHz spectrum across all the 22 telecom circles.
With this, Airtel has complied with the minimum roll-out obligations (MRO) criteria, as confirmed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which carried out testing in Mumbai LSA.
The company acquired 19,800 MHz spectrum by securing a pan India footprint of 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands and some mid-band spectrum, spending Rs. 43,084 crore in the auction in July 2022.
Airtel recently said that it rolled out 5G services in close to 5,000 cities and towns in the country, since it started rolling out 5G in October last year. By December 2023, the company is looking to expand 5G coverage across all major cities in India.
Regarding this, Airtel said:
With broader 5G opportunities enabled by 26 GHz, the company is poised to continuously drive innovation to create ultimate Airtel 5G Plus experiences for its customers.
The performance on the ground has demonstrated remarkable potential and the growing momentum of 5G adoption.
