OnePlus India, in response to the increasing complaints about green lines on AMOLED displays in smartphones, has introduced a lifetime screen warranty for affected devices in India.
This new policy covers all OnePlus phones facing the green line issue and provides a screen warranty for the entire lifespan of the device.
Lifetime Screen Warranty for Affected Devices
A spokesperson from OnePlus confirmed to Android Authority that the company will provide a “lifetime screen warranty” exclusively for customers in India.
This warranty covers any OnePlus smartphone experiencing the green line issue, ensuring that affected users can get their screens repaired or replaced without extra costs.
Notably, this warranty is not limited to specific device models; it applies to all OnePlus phones encountering the green line problem.
Upgrade Discounts for Eligible Users
Selected OnePlus users with affected devices can also benefit from upgrade discounts. Customers who own OnePlus 8 Pro, 8T, 9, and 9R models with the green line fault will receive discount vouchers to upgrade to a new OnePlus smartphone.
Telegram user @docnok63 shared that OnePlus Exclusive Service Centers are offering upgrade discounts for those experiencing the green line issue. These upgrade discounts are presently available exclusively for customers in India, subject to spare parts availability at specific service centers.
Affected customers looking to avail of the screen warranty and upgrade discounts should make their replacements or upgrades through the official OnePlus India website. It’s important to note that certain locations might still offer screen replacements based on the availability of spare parts.
While the announcement does not specify the condition of the affected phone’s usage, it’s suggested that consumers carefully evaluate their options. For older devices with diminished resale value due to poor handling, upgrading to a new OnePlus phone might be a more viable choice.
Excluded models
The announcement highlights that not all OnePlus models are covered under this policy. Devices such as OnePlus 8, 9 Pro, and the entire OnePlus 10 and 11 series are not mentioned, possibly due to lower impact or sufficient spare parts availability.
This initiative by OnePlus sets an example, and consumers hope that other manufacturers follow suit to address similar issues in their products.
On the new announcement, OnePlus India said:
We realize that this issue has caused a great deal of inconvenience to the affected users, and we apologize for it. In line with our unwavering commitment, we encourage users to visit the nearest OnePlus service centre for device diagnosis, and we will provide free screen replacement for all devices affected by the situation.
On select OnePlus 8 and 9 Series devices, we are also offering a voucher that will provide the user with a fair percentage of the device value to upgrade to a new OnePlus device. In light of the current situation, we are now offering lifetime screen warranty on all affected devices. Thank you for your understanding and support.
