Netflix has revealed its plans to expand the testing of its gaming offerings to a wider range of devices. In addition to mobile phones, the streaming giant is now making games available on TVs and computers.
This move follows the recent launch of the iOS Gaming Controller App for TV Screens earlier this month.
Enhancing Accessibility for Members Worldwide
By broadening the availability of games across multiple devices, Netflix aims to provide its global members with easier access to gaming entertainment.
Although still in the early stages of their gaming venture, Netflix is excited about the prospect of bringing joy to their subscribers through games.
Limited Beta Test in Canada and the UK
Netflix has initiated a limited beta test, beginning in Canada and the UK, targeting a select group of members. This initial phase involves testing the game streaming technology and controller to enhance the user experience progressively.
The testing phase will feature two games: Oxenfree from Night School Studio, a game studio affiliated with Netflix, and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, an arcade-style gem-mining game.
Gaming Access on Different Devices
For TV-based gaming, Netflix introduces a controller that most of us are already familiar with – our smartphones. On PCs and Macs, members can access games through Netflix.com using a keyboard and mouse.
Supported Devices and Ongoing Expansion
Netflix’s partner brands, including Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN will initially support the games.
According to Netflix, the list of supported devices will continue to expand over time.
Availability
The limited beta testing phase has commenced for limited members in Canada and the UK on select TVs. In the upcoming weeks, the beta test will also extend to PCs and Macs through Netflix.com, accessible via supported browsers.
Announcing the gaming expansion, Netflix posted:
Our mission is to create a game for everyone by providing an accessible, smooth, and ubiquitous service that meets our members where they are. By expanding the availability of games to more devices, we aim to make gaming even more effortless for our global community.
Though we are still in the early stages of our journey, we are thrilled to bring joy to our members through games and eagerly anticipate feedback from our beta testers as we continue down the path ahead.
