Google rolls out ‘Memories view’ to Google Photos

Google has introduced a new feature called Memories in Google Photos. It’s like a scrapbook of your memories that is automatically organized with the help of AI.

This feature lets you easily relive, personalize, and share your special trips, events, and everyday moments with your loved ones.

Make Memories Your Own

Google provides more ways to view your best photos and videos in Google Photos, and AI does most of the work for you. Your memories are important, and you have control over them.

You can store your loved memories in the Memories section or build your own from the beginning. You can also add or remove specific photos and videos in this view.

Name Your Memories with AI

You have the option to rename your memories to make them recognizable and capture the emotions of the moment. If you need ideas, Google Photos can suggest titles generated by AI.

Just look for the “Help me title” button on certain memories. If you’re not satisfied, you can edit the suggested titles or ask for more options. You can even guide the suggestions by adding hints.

Share Your Memories in New Ways

Now, you can collaborate with others on your memories. Similar to shared albums, you can invite friends or family to contribute photos and videos to a memory, filling in the missing pieces. If someone shares a memory with you, you can save it to your Memories view for later.

Soon, Google will add the ability to share memories as videos. This way, you can easily send them to friends and family using your preferred messaging or social media app.

Availability

The Memories view is beginning to roll out in the U.S. and will soon be accessible worldwide within the next few months. The Name Your Memories feature is an experimental feature from Google Labs and will initially be available to select U.S. accounts.

Commenting on the announcement, Brandon Im, Senior Product Manager, Google Photos, said:

Phones store countless photos and videos, ranging from everyday happenings to significant life events. Yet, they also accumulate duplicate pictures, screenshots, and unclear videos, causing us to lose sight of what truly matters. Hence, four years back, we initiated the presentation of important photos and videos through the Memories carousel in Google Photos — a feature now embraced by over half a billion users every month.

Today, we introduce the new Memories view, a place for your cherished moments, automatically arranged and managed with AI’s assistance. This timeline, reminiscent of a scrapbook, allows easy reliving, personalization, and sharing of your most treasured journeys, festivities, and daily experiences with your dear ones.
