WhatsApp now lets you send HD quality photos

WhatsApp has added a new HD Photos feature that lets you send HD quality compared to the standard quality. The company started testing the feature back in February this year, before rolling it out in beta for Android and iOS users in June.

To adjust the quality of an attached photo, click → Standard quality or HD quality → Done before sending. You can see the image size to know the difference between the size of the standard quality and the HD quality.

You also see HD tag on the photos that have been sent in HD quality that helps the recipient understand when a photo is sent by using this feature. WhatsApp says that standard photos take less storage space, and the HD photos are clearer.

This is a good addition, since previously you will have to send the photos as a document if you want to send them in the original resolution without compression. However, this feature is limited to photos, and doesn’t work for videos, since you still need to send videos as a document to avoid compression. However, Meta said to The Verge that it is planning to bring HD videos feature soon.

The new HD quality photos feature is already rolling out for both Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp.
