In about a month, Apple plans to unveil its new iPhone 15 series. One significant change on the horizon is the shift from the Lightning connector to USB-C.
Reports from 9to5mac indicate that some of the upcoming models will support faster charging, potentially reaching up to 35W. This follows a prior report suggesting that certain new iPhones might also support Thunderbolt via the USB-C port.
Faster Charging Speeds on iPhone 15 Models
According to the report, certain iPhone 15 models could achieve faster charging speeds of up to 35W. This is a notable increase compared to the current charging speeds.
For instance, the iPhone 14 Pro currently charges at 27W, while the regular iPhone 14 charges at 20W. This advancement could significantly reduce charging time, with an iPhone 14 Pro Max potentially fully recharging in around two hours.
Compatibility with High-Power Chargers
Apple introduced a 35W Dual USB-C charger last year for speedy iPhone charging. iPhone 15 might use its full 35W power when not connected to other devices. Apple’s 30W USB-C charger for MacBook Air is also compatible with iPhones and iPads.
It’s uncertain if 35W charging is only for iPhone 15 Pro or the entire lineup. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said faster USB-C charging for iPhone 15 requires certified cables, suggesting specific standards for optimal performance.
As the launch date of the iPhone 15 series approaches, more details about its features and capabilities are likely to emerge, with the event reportedly scheduled for September 12th or 13th.
