Uber India launches ‘Group Rides’ for affordable shared travel

In a bid to make ride-sharing even more convenient and economical, Uber has launched the ‘Group Rides’ feature in India. This feature allows passengers to share their Uber rides with up to three friends when traveling to the same destination.

One of the standout advantages of Group Rides is the potential cost savings it offers. Depending on the number of friends riders share their trip with, they can save up to 30% on their fare.

To do this, users will need to tap the ‘Group Ride’ icon in the updated Uber app and then begin a request for a Group Ride. Once the request has been submitted, users can send a link to the trip to their friends. Friends can then tap the link to join the ride and add their own stops, if desired.

Beyond the convenience and savings for passengers, Uber emphasizes that drivers’ earnings won’t be negatively impacted. They will continue to receive the same compensation based on the route they take, similar to standard Uber Go or Uber Premier rides.

Uber’s Group Rides feature is currently available through the updated Uber app, offering a user-friendly experience to create shared rides, add friends, and ensure a smoother journey together.

Regarding the matter, Nitish Bhushan, Director of Central Operations, Uber India, said,

With Group Rides we are offering customers the option to save more while they are riding with people they know. Not only do riders save money and arrive at the common destination together, they also do the good deed of reducing vehicles on the road by getting more butts in fewer cars.
