Meta announced on Tuesday that Threads will soon be available on the web. This change will happen over the next few days, as mentioned by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
This new rollout is expected to make Threads more popular among power users such as brands, company accounts, advertisers, and journalists. They will now have the option to use Threads on larger screens for better engagement.
With Threads on the web, you can post, interact with other posts, view your feed, and more, according to Meta. A recent update introduced features like sharing in Instagram DMs, custom alt-text, and more.
Threads initially gained a lot of attention, with over 100 million sign-ups within five days of its launch on July 5. However, its popularity declined as users went back to using the more familiar platform X (formerly Twitter).
Despite the big launch, some analytics firms noted a decrease in Threads usage. The improved web version and upcoming enhanced search feature might encourage some users to come back.
Additionally, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri responded to a user’s inquiry about Threads’ features. He mentioned that while he’s unsure about direct messages (DMs) on Threads, it might make more sense to integrate them more closely with Instagram instead of creating a separate inbox.
However, he confirmed that work is being done on features like editing posts, moderation, the web version (coming this week), and other improvements.
Availability
As per the announcement, the Threads web version will be rolled out this week and can be accessed at Threads.net.
