According to sources, the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models will not experience any boost in data transfer speeds despite their shift to USB-C ports. This change marks Apple’s first use of USB-C ports in its iPhones.
Leaker Majun Bu, known for sharing Apple details, revealed that the USB-C cables in the iPhone 15 boxes will support USB 2.0 speeds, maxing out at 480 MBps—similar to Lightning cables. These cables are 1.6 meters long, have 16 pins, and lack MFI certification (Made for iPhone/iPod/iPad).
Contrasting Features in iPhone 15 Pro Models
On the other hand, rumors align regarding the iPhone 15 Pro models supporting faster USB-C transfer speeds. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicates that the Pro models will support “at least” USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3. Comparatively, the iPad Pro’s Thunderbolt port offers speeds up to 40 Gbps, while the entry-level iPad’s USB-C is capped at 480 Mbps.
The improved data transfer speeds in iPhone 15 Pro models will allow quicker transfers of videos and other files compared to the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
According to earlier reports, each iPhone 15 will include a sturdier, 50% longer braided USB-C charging cable in the box, replacing the Lightning cable. Reports suggest that these cables might match potential new iPhone colors, including black, white, yellow, blue, and orange.
